Great April’s Fools - - - - but the Leafs are still not making the playoffsPosted by: Mr. Laucke in HomeworkDespite all the interruptions, some work is actually being done this week… Ecosystems: Unit Review: 8L # 1 to 17 have been assigned, 8M # 1 to 8 so far Pure Substances and Mixtures: We are taking up the unit review questions from last week. 7M has done # 2 to 10, 6/7 and 7/8’s have done # 2 to 19. The test is being moved to after Easter weekend due to all of this week’s special events. Motion: Page 20 # 1 to 4 is tonight’s homework if not finished in class. History: All classes except Mrs. McNaught’s have been put in groups for Chapter 10 and have their assigned sections for presentations later next week. Drama: Keep working on/practicing your tableau scene for presentation to the class. Formal Thursday tomorrow.
Unit tests are approaching for grades 7 and 8. The link to the Gauss Math Contests from previous years is: www.cemc.uwaterloo.ca/contests/past_contests.html#gauss Pure Substances and Mixtures: The unit review questions should be completed so they are ready for taking up in class: # 2 to 22, 24 to 28, 30 to 33, and 35 to 39 Ecosystems: Case Study 5.19: Solutions for Global Warming is now late (3 lates in 8L, 10 lates in 8M), Unit Review is starting this week. History: We are starting chapter 10 this week, there will be a quiz on chapters 9 and 10 once it’s done Drama: Tableau scripts should be in progress, remember it’s 90 seconds before the snapshot and 90 seconds after.

History - Research for your newspaper assignment so you have things ot share with your group in class - due: Friday, March 6th Art - 8L: Final drawing due next Friday, February 27th Other events this weekend: High School Volleyball Finals tonight at the College starting at 3:30 for midget, 5:00 junior, 7:00 senior, Basketball Finals at St. Christopher tomorrow (check The Observer for start times)
The Grade 8 visit to Northern is this Thursday morning. If you have not brought in your permission form, please do so tomorrow. Pizza orders are due tomorrow, Scholastic orders by Friday. Grad Photo deadline extended to tomorrow. Ecosystems: 8L - Section 5.4 # 1 to 5, 8L & 8M - Case Study 5.3 is now overdue. Pure Substances: The lab is now complete, the write-up is due in one week: Tuesday, February 24th - don’t forget Section 1.7 #9 a to e for the Analysis section. Diversity: no homework tonight History: Chapter 6 and 7 Quiz/Test: 8L and 7/8 tomorrow (Wednesday), 7M on Thursday More history: 1812 Newspapers - make sure everyone knows their assigned role and has started researching the necessary information. Due date: Last history class the week of March 2nd to 6th. Art: 8L - Final Projects due on Friday, February 27th - there should be many 4’s based on my in-class observations. Trivia: An easy math problem: An electric powered steam engine is travelled west to Chicago at 150 km/hour. A wind is coming from the southeast at 15 km/hour. In what direction and at what speed is the smoke from the engine blowing?
Not many posts this week as there has not been a lot of homework. Due to student complaints, this will now change. Special Announcements: Grad Photo Orders are due by Tuesday, February 17th, Northern tours are Thursday, February 19th, and option sheets are due by Thursday, February 26th. Ecosystems: Case Study 5.3 (a) to (k) due: Tuesday, February 17th. More Ecosystems: We have started a simulation on animal adaptations, this will be due late next week. Pure Substances: We are completing preparations for our first formal lab on dissolving factors. Formal labs are due 1 week from the date of completion in class, so look for a hand-in date of either Friday, February 20th or Monday, February 24th depending on whether we need a second class to complete the lab. Diversity: We have been completing an in-class information research and sharing activity on Arthropods, make sure all your handouts are completed. History Test/Quiz (Twiz?): Chapters 6 and 7 on Tuesday for 8M, Wednesday for 8L and 7/8, and Thursday for 7M. More History: We are starting a major assignment for The War of 1812. Students will be creating a newspaper set in the time of the war. Groups and specific roles are being assigned this week. Due date to be announced next week. Art: 7M - We are finishing off the watercolours and each student should have a portfolio of 4 completed paintings. 8L - The final projects are starting to look extremely nice. Due Date: Friday, February, 27th In order to be nice and refreshed for all this work, students can stay home all day on Monday, February 16th and relax with their families.
